Summer Backyard Project With Crate and Barrel

I recently worked on a summer backyard project featuring some beautiful Crate & Barrel pieces that I think everyone will want to see.

And with summer just around the corner, I can’t think of a better time than now to showcase this beautiful outdoor area! From teak wood to striped details, this backyard project was a dream. So, if you’re interested in learning more about outdoor styling areas and the specific details of this project, continue below!

The Lindye Galloway Aesthetic

To truly understand my design process, you must be aware of my aesthetic. Three specific words come to mind—sophisticated, innovative, and trendsetting.

Creating an Indoor-Outdoor Living Space

I’m a California girl at heart, so I especially love designing the interiors of homes to connect to the exterior. That translates into this project as the layout of this soft modern home creates an indoor-outdoor living space that I know the homeowners will love. Not only is it breathtaking, but it’s also a functional space to entertain friends and family!

Decor Elements to Elevate Any Outdoor Space

For most outdoor projects, I try to incorporate specific decor elements that will instantly elevate the space. Beautiful furniture for entertaining, a cozy gathering space around the fireplace, and greenery to liven up the area and bring in color are just some of the decor elements I make sure to include.

Working On This Outdoor Project

We’ve worked with Jasmine and JD (the homeowners) on two homes over the last few years. This home was the latest project. Their home connects and opens up to the backyard, making it a perfect space for outdoor entertaining. And since this project involved a backyard remodel, there weren’t any design challenges as it was beautifully outlined to expand on the home’s architecture. Jasmine and JD wanted a functional and elevated space, and that’s just what we gave them.

The Crate & Barrel Pieces

I decided to go with the Kinney collection from Crate & Barrel, which gives off a lovely, minimalist feel! The teak wood was a beautiful contrast against the concrete throughout the backyard. I was drawn to these pieces because they were both unique and comfortable. The set had a cohesive look without being too matchy, which I always think brings a more personal look. I also incorporated the slip-covered pieces alongside the collection, so it got another layer and look to the backyard.

Decorating the Outdoor Space

When it came to adding personal touches to the outdoor space, I first started with modern organic planters to hone into the style of the dining space. There are very straight lines throughout the backyard, so giving it an organic flare helped create a more lived-in look. Additionally, instead of thinking of this space as a separate area from the house, I envisioned it as an extension (which I suggest everyone does!). Make sure to bring outdoor pieces to your backyard that have a similar style to your interiors, that way, you can create a layout that flows from the indoors out!
