We furnished this seasonal residence with custom designed pieces that offered the perfect blend of coastal California elegance and iconic Nordic design with an eye towards kid-friendly resilience.

#1 ADD CONTRAST + TEXTURE
Light and bright homes are what dreams are made of! Juxtapose those white walls and the neutral palette with darker hues, wood accents or black details. Bring in the comfort and cozy with texture in rugs, pillows and throws that complete the look. My personal favorites are the Scandinavian inspired chairs, bench and our custom sofas that all add different types of contrast to the rooms!
# 2 PLAY WITH SHAPES AND SCALE
Modern homes have a lean towards clean lines and an angled approach so we love bringing in organic shapes to break it up here and there. This metal table and curved back chairs are the perfect compliment and still remain modern in feel. And can we talk about that art? Adding the collection of oversized pieces made for an interesting and unexpected backdrop to this dining room made for entertaining.
#3 MORE LAYERS. ALWAYS.
Layers are what give a room that thoughtful and comfortable feel. Add wallpaper to highlight your bed, drapery to add depth, rugs to ground the room and accessories for that final touch. And if you’re feeling really wild, layer a rug on a rug! All of these moments make your modern rooms feel more approachable.
