Shelves have become such a beautiful and unique way to display curated and bespoke items. They can be placed basically in any room in your home and attract a great deal of interest.

Keep it minimal
When decorating your Shelves, you can never go wrong with a minimalist design. And that means going with your shelf type as the basis of your design. Whether it be wood, white, black, metal, floating shelves, built-in shelves, shelves suspended by leather, etc., I think that once you determine your shelf type and the room’s aesthetic, you can dive deeper into the decor.
When it comes to your decor, “less is more,” fewer items on the shelves can be quite impactful if done correctly. And the minimalistic approach can make a real difference. It draws you in with a few well-placed curated or bespoke items while utilizing negative space and making the items you choose to stand out even more.
Cluster groupings of pieces
Clustering groups of pieces on your shelf is an excellent method and truly one of my favorites. It’s one of the best ways to bring some volume to your shelves. Because I often feel like shelves tend to look too minimal or too cluttered, I like a shelf with more groupings on it. It is also a fantastic way to achieve a great dimension and height.
Usually, when grouping, I prefer to use vases or canisters, and adding greenery to those things can provide some height.

Add a touch of greenery
Adding a touch of greenery to your shelf provides an organic feeling and is a great way to finish off the shelf for me. I love placing some greenery on the top shelf or a tiny succulent or indoor plant on the bottom shelf. But having something that’s very flowy and brings a natural element in which I love.
Textured pieces
When it comes to other things you can use to style your shelves, I am a fan of adding textured pieces. Adding something in that’s woven, whether it be a small basket or a small catchall, anything that has kind of a textured feel. I typically go for more coastal style materials, like wovens, cane, rattan, or something along those lines. But you can mix it up by adding a few vintage pieces or add in anything with a rustic
Play with different heights and layers
I love layering. A fantastic way to layer is by using an art piece behind your decor on your shelf or staggering certain items. I’m a big fan of pairing things in twos or threes to make it really fun and dimensional.

Keep the colors neutral
Try to keep the colors neutral. I usually recommend keeping the colors neutral because I feel like open shelves are already such a statement that it’s more esthetically pleasing when they are monochromatic and playoff their natural feeling. However, how you style your shelf is up to you, so have fun with it.
It’s ok to make it functional
The shelves in your house can store items that you use every day. They can provide utility if they’re in an office or a bathroom with an eclectic collection of bottles and beauty supplies, or even a bedroom if you want to include books, vases, candles, baskets, art, and more.
Play with different colors
If you are going to play with colors, I think it’s important to stick with a neutral base on your floating shelf and then build color throughout. So whether that’s incorporating bowls, flowers, vases, trays, or different kinds of coffee table books, I think that that’s a fun and creative way to do it; otherwise, including art is also a fun way to bring color and affect the mood of your space.

Stack a couple of books
No matter how often I mention coffee table books, it will never be enough. Stylistic books are a fantastic way to draw interest. I always take them down and go through them when I’m looking for inspiration. They’re beautiful, the bindings and the covers. Whether you prop them up with bookends or lay them flat and style something on top. Your options are endless with books and the different sizes and variations that they come in.
Show off your collections
A shelf is an excellent way for you to showcase all the unique items you collected over time. Displaying your memories is an amazing way to express yourself through home decor.
