Guest Bedroom Tips

With the holidays in full swing, now is the time for entertaining family and friends who might be staying over. So, where do I even begin? Pillows? Sheets? Towels? There’s honestly so much to cover… and a lot of things people tend to completely forget about. Toothbrushes for example? Yep, guests always seem to forget to pack those!

Below, I’ve curated a list of everything you need as well as all my best guest bedroom tips.

Stock the Bathroom

I personally think the bathroom is one of the most important aspects of a guest bedroom. It’s where they shower and get ready so it’s pretty dang essential. Although you may be inclined to provide a hotel-like experience, there are small touches that will make them feel as such! For example, when you go to a hotel, what are the things you’re provided with? Take that and run with it. Here’s my list of items you should use to stock the bathroom:

Toothbrushes, floss, makeup wipes, moisturizer, hand soap, towels, body wash, conditioner, shampoo, toilet paper, and hairdryer.

Leave Room for Their Belongings

Next up for my guest bedroom tips is a gentle reminder to leave them room for their personal belongings. If your guest bedroom is typically where junk is stored, be sure to clear out some space… at least for the time your guest is staying with you. Lots of people like fully unpacking their bags, putting clothes away into a drawer, and hanging items up. So be sure there’s at least one drawer or basket to store their clothes, as well as some empty hangers in the closet. Also, if there’s room for it, find a space in the closet their suitcase can fit. That way, it won’t be in their way. It’s in the little details that will make them feel the most comfortable!

Entertainment Options

When playing host is over at night and it’s time to go to bed, make sure your guest still has the option to entertain themself. If you can put a TV in the guest bedroom, for example, that would be fantastic. Props if it’s loaded with all the best apps like Netflix and Hulu! Be sure to leave the remote on the bedside table and even a little note with directions if it’s confusing. Another cute thing I love to do is put a book I’ve read and loved in the guest bedroom. Just let them know there’s a book waiting for them if they get bored. It’s such a thoughtful gesture!

Write Out Important Info

The last thing a guest wants to feel like is a nuisance, so be sure to provide them with all the necessary info they’ll need. That way, they won’t need to constantly pester you! If you want to go all out, leave them a little welcome card, of sorts. Include info like the Wifi, gate code, door code, times you’ve made dinner reservations for, and even a reminder to help themselves in the kitchen or to anything in the house. This will put them at ease and feel really welcomed.

Provide Them With Linens, Blankets, and Pillows

Last but not least… the bed! Have you ever stayed at a hotel and woken up with a sore neck and back? Yep, been there, done that! Make sure this doesn’t happen to your guest and invest in a nice mattress (Costco is a great place to start) and comfy pillows. Your linens and sheets don’t need to be crazy expensive, but do include a second set of sheets and pillowcases in your closet. Chances are, they won’t need them, but it’s always nice to have them as an option. And if you really want them to be warm and cozy, give them a snug robe they can use during the colder months.
