Bed Styling Tips You Will Love

In his book, Charles Duhigg explained that “Making your bed every morning is correlated with better productivity, a greater sense of well-being, and stronger skills at sticking with a budget.”  Here are our go-to pointers for how the right styling can leave a lasting impression. The bed is really the sanctuary of the space and the main focal point of your master bedroom, and so we think you might as well layer, layer, layer. Layers are the key ingredient to a beautiful bed and hotel-like look.

Mattress and Frame

The mattress and frame are essential, as you spend a third of your life sleeping, so we want this to include as much comfort as possible and look into the structure of your bed. There are many fantastic options for the right bed frame, whether you’re going for a platform, a four-poster, a traditional upholstered bed, or even a headboard.

We recommend a full bed, including the base, and then going from there, whether you need a mattress or a box spring. It’s totally up to you. Although we believe a headboard can cheapen the look, we have seen many amazing platforms and upholstered bed frames in their entirety that look amazing on a budget.

Colors and Themes

Naturals

A little something Natural can be lovely. Cane is a timeless staple, rattan or other woven products using leather materials can also have a beautiful finish, especially since you typically have a wooden or painted nightstand. It’s just the perfect touch of texture that brings a more coastal, cohesive look.

All-White

An all-white bed is extremely traditional and gives off a bit of a farmhouse, shabby chic vibe to it, and can be quite beautiful especially, with a hint of brass hardware or something fun in the millwork detailing.

Bright & Colorful

If upholstery is your thing or you’re open to learning, then feel free to pick a fabric that makes a statement. Pick a bold fabric, like a lovely green or pink velvet, or even a four-poster with a navy paint color!

Monochromatic

Here at Lindye Galloway we love a monochromatic look and think that its the best way to go for a timeless feel, so we believe that something upholstered or a neutral four-poster is beautiful in the space. Although we also think that a black bed can also be beautifully utilizing the monochromatic style, as you’ll see in many of our contrasting bedroom designs.

Duvet Covers and Bed Sheets

Duvets and bedsheets are fundamental to making a good bed and the necessary materials required to start. The duvet is kind of what gives it that hotel quality with the layered effect that you’re rolling a duvet at the end of the bed to give it the oomph factor so that it is plush and beautiful and creates depth at the end of the bed, plus it’s super cozy.

Coverlets

We believe that you need to add a coverlet for that extra level of luxury, especially with the ever-changing seasons. Wherever you’re from, whether it’s winter to summer, you always have that additional layer to remove or add if need be, and it’s just a beautiful way to bring in texture and comfort into your space. You can choose between wool, linen, flannel, cotton, or percale based on how you sleep and if you’re a hot sleeper or a cold sleeper.

Throws and Pillows

Throws and pillows are the finishing touches to bed-making perfection. They are what pulls the entire look together. This is the place where you can use patterns or colors to bring the space together.  Using the materials from the side table, lamps, sconces, the dresser across the room, and the mirror ensures there is a cohesive balance as everything blends together. So I would say this is the last final touch to complete a bedroom.

At Lindye Galloway we have a great range of both throws and pillows to choose from.

Layering Like a Pro

Although it seems natural to make a bed, we have created a step by step guide to help you achieve the best possible outcome. Below we will be breaking down each step to ensure you have the best method of producing a fantastic focal piece for your bedroom.

Step 1

It may seem a bit obvious, but we will start by fitting the fitted sheet to the mattress, then the flat sheet, make sure to tuck the flat sheet into the mattress or box spring with a pulled-back detail. Always ensure that the flat sheet is placed upside down so that when you do pull it back, you see the correct flange or border on the sheet that will showcase the little details.

Step 2

Then It’s time to place the coverlet. The coverlet acts as an inner layer under the duvet, which provides that extra layer of texture and comfort.

Step 3

The next step is to put the duvet in place. The duvet should be at the end of the bed, really layered and poofy to create depth, and that inviting hotel look.

Step 4

Step four is all about the pillows. Start by stacking the bigger pillows first you can fill the space closest to the headboard then the day to day pillows that match your sheet set. The pillows can be cascading or stacked, as stacking them has a more modern look.

There is no perfect number of pillows to use, but we recommend three for a pyramid effect. They can be three completely different pillows, two that match in size and color with one smaller one in front or even one long lumbar.

Step 5

The best way to finish off the bed is to add an accent throw blanket. This throw can be used throughout your room, especially if you have a chair in the corner or wanna cuddle up and binge a good Netflix series.

Bring Style Into the Bedroom

We at Lindye Galloway bring style into the bedroom by just ensuring that we have added texture, added pillows, always beautiful greenery or florals in the space, and think about the details in a bedroom, since, again, that’s where you spend a third of your life.
