Cabinets

Cabinets are what I believe is the best place to start. It’s quite important to decide if you’re going to paint your cabinets or stick with a wood finish with a custom stain. Suppose you’re going to do open cabinetry or open shelving. This will determine the space that you have and the overall layout you’ll be working with.

Floors

There are various options to choose from regarding flooring options, tiles, vinyl types, and hardwood to carpets. Carpets these days have thickness levels to them, so if you prefer a big bathroom area rug, you can help them with that. Or, if you prefer tile work, you can offer them mosaic tile options as a design feature on the bathroom floor.

Then, moving from that finish into your flooring, I definitely think that it’s super fun to mix tiles and hardwood and marble and different types of materials to get that really eclectic and luxurious feel. It really all depends on what you prefer in your space and what you prefer to walk on. Different flooring types come in all other options, so I definitely recommend ordering samples or taking a trip to your local slab yard or tile store and having fun with determining which are your favorites.

Bathroom Sink

When it comes to the bathroom sink, the options are almost endless. If you want a free-standing sink or a hardwired one in the wall, whether you want a large bowl or a small one, whether you want the bowl made of hand-blown glass, shiny metals, gold-leafed glass, or even marble.

It’s nice to play around with these things. There are so many different combinations that you could have, not to mention the various faucet options that are now available, providing you with a plethora of options. Hence, you have a lot of leeways when it comes to overall design and aesthetics.

Lighting

I would recommend making lighting a statement in your bathroom. I love playing with sconces and chandeliers above the tub or something really bold to add extra interest and focus in the room. It’s also a great way to elevate your bathroom and create an ultra-luxury feeling with some stunning lighting.

Mirrors

When it comes to mirrors, I say go big or go home. I love a grand mirror in a bathroom. I think that it’s something that immediately draws focus, it grounds the room, and you can’t go wrong.

Furniture

Adding furniture to your bathroom can make it more functional and comfortable while upgrading the luxury factor. If you have the space in your bathroom for it, I always love to add a chair or a bench, or maybe a lovely little stool if space is a factor, as somewhere to place your towel or where you can just relax if you’re feeling a moment of serenity.

Fabric

Don’t forget about window treatments and how you will feel in this space. Fabrics for your window treatments can add an element of elegance to the bathroom depending on if you’re going to do something contrasting or something relatively neutral.

Bath Faucets

Selecting the right faucet depends on the style of the bathroom you are working with. You may want to fix decorative faucets of solid gold, polished brass, pewter, brushed nickel, or burnished iron. There are hundreds of bathroom sink faucets to choose from but keep in mind that it should go well with the tub and shower elements.

BathTub

Bathtubs come in all different shapes and sizes. You have to decide if you want jets in your bathtub for a more spa-like experience or if you want to go more basic not to mention the other styles like claw, generic, soak in, walk-in, whirlpool, and air tubs. You can have a great time choosing a bathtub but make sure the tub you select fits both your bathroom style and your affinity for bubble baths.

Accessories

One of my Favorite accessories would be a bath rug. Getting a cool vintage runner always helps ground the space and makes it really interesting and elegant. The artwork is a fun way to incorporate different elements and focal points. Lots of towels and lush bath mats, and other things like that.

Summary

I would say you need to figure out your interior design style, figure out what you’re loving, what you want to wake up to and go to bed every single day, and then have a great time deciding your design elements from there.
